HSSE in MJEC is a way of life that means no work can start without sound and effective HSSE cover. Therefore MJEC is striving through its HSSE team to create a sound HSSE culture. If the definition of culture is ‘how we do things’ then definitely this means in MJEC that we do things under the umbrella of HSSE, it is our norms, values and principles.
The company is being recognized as one of the ‘best’ in promoting HSSE values in the sector. In this regard, the company has taken many steps a head in:
- Issuing new health and Safety Policy in line with the OHSAS 18001 requirements. Yes the aim of the company is to get this certification within coming few years. The company now is working hard to close the gaps of shortfalls in order to meet all OHSAS 18001 requirements.
- Issuing new Environmental Policy in line with ISO 14001 requirements. Yes the company is aiming to get this international certification. It is the company belief that Environ in which we operate must be kept clean, tidy with no adverse effects to human life and other living things.
- Issuing Security Policy, the company is very sincere and serious in making sure that all its assets are secured and pose no threats to public safety. Recently the company has launched an exercise in North Batina region to ensure that its assets are secured with international standard locks as per ESRs. Similar exercise will be done in other regions.
- Issuing for the first time HSSE plan that identifies many HSSE activities to be done throughout the year.
- HSSE responsibilities/accountabilities have been identified and being aligned with new staff job descriptions.
- Intelex HSSE software program have been purchased in order to:
- Electronically Store all HSSE documents which will be accessible to all staff.
- Do incidents notification, investigation, reporting and actions follow up.
- Schedule HSSE meetings, inspections, audits etc.
- Show HSSE performance of the company.
- Create training database.
- And many other features….
When this program will be fully utilized by the company staff, it will save time and paper uses. HSSE team is working hard to get it ‘live’ across the company organization.
- Safety gathering day ‘ Safety believers club’ have been launched in the regions to:
- To send a signal to staff and contractors that HSSE is important same as other activities.
- To help in building safety conscious and culture.
- As part of motivation and raising the morale.
What still to be achieved?
- True –real- translation of H,S, E, S policies on the ground.
- Full implementation of HSSE plan 2010.
- Do HEMP- This is the real challenge!.
- Close the gaps to meet OHSAS 18001 requirements.
- Review and update HSSE manual.
- Create training data base according to HSSE training matrix, & nominate staff for courses.
- Create safety culture through road shows, regular HSSE meetings, and periodic review of HSSE performance.
- Connect staff annual appraisal and promotion to HSSE performance.
- Identify disciplinary measures against staff and contractors HSSE violations.
- Full utilization of Intelex software as stated above.
- Review HSSE contract management, for any new contract HSSE will be main criterion of contract selection process/qualification.
