In continual of efforts and projects conducted by Majan Electricity Co to develop its distribution network, Electricity Distribution Division at Dahira and Buraimi replaced 20 wooden poles with concrete poles at 33 kV voltage line feeding Masarrat basin, Ibri, Dahirah region. These poles were installed as a trial project the first to be conducted by the company. This feeder used to suffer from breaking of poles due to winds which lead to disruption of service and double the cost of repair and maintenance. With this major shift in the strategy of establishment of feeders, Majan Electricity company wish to insure continuity of electrical current without disruption and minimize the operating cost. Another 180 poles in the existing networks are to be changed for the same reasons. Engin. Ahmed Saif Al-Mazroui, General Manager, Majan Electricity Company, talked about the project, “As the company is concerned about supporting its electrical networks and offer better services to its customers, we have conducted this project in cooperation with global specialized companies in this field. This type of poles endures tough weather circumstances specially winds and heavy rains. Besides, the life determining is longer than the wooden ones’. Engin. Ahmed Al-Shukri , Distribution Office Manager, Dahirah and Buraimi, added: “ the company is considering the feasibility of continue using these poles. If it was approved to be economically and practically sufficient, the company will generalize the experience to other areas and will be approved with the strategic stock. The company wishes to be able to replace all wooden poles on the long extent to save trees and forests.
